Programs and initiatives that support positive behaviour

Schools have access to a range of programs and initiatives that identify and respond to student needs. This also helps ensure students can behave well at school.

Student support services

Student support services include psychologists, speech pathologists, social workers and other allied health professionals such as occupational therapists or youth workers.

Disability Inclusion

Disability Inclusion is part of the government’s approach to inclusive education. It provides extra support for students with disability in Victorian government schools.

Respectful Relationships

Embedding a culture of respect, positive attitudes, and equality across the whole school community.

Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS)

Every eligible government and low fee non-government primary school is funded to employ a Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader to implement a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.

Mental health practitioners in secondary and specialist schools

The department introduced the Mental Health Practitioners initiative in 2019 to expand in-school mental health and wellbeing supports to Victorian government schools. From Term 4 2021, the initiative has been rolled out to all eligible school campuses across Victoria. It has also been extended to all eligible specialist school campuses.
