Actions schools must take when Victoria Police or Child Protection want to conduct an interview with a student at school.

Government schools

Follow the Police and Child Protection Interviews Policy. This explains how to respond when Victoria Police or Child Protection ask to interview a student at school.

Principals can contact the department’s Legal Division for support.

Catholic schools

Follow the protocols outlined in your school’s policy. It will guide how to respond to Victoria Police or Child Protection requests to interview a student at school.

Principals should report all child safety incidents using channels outlined in their policy. For example, report to the relevant diocesan office, board chair or school proprietor.

Independent schools

Contact Independent Schools Victoria for support on child safety matters. This includes information about facilitating interviews at school.
