Vocational Training and Education (VET) can be a flexible and practical way to upgrade your existing skills. This can help prepare you for opportunities in your current field of work.

Short courses and skill sets

Short courses and skill sets are available in a number of fields. They focus on learning a specific skill in a short space of time, rather than a full qualification.

For example, a short course can help you learn new technology required for your job. It can also be a great way to reconnect with your job after time away.

Although short courses and skill sets are not qualifications, you will receive a certificate of attainment on completion.

You can search for government-funded short courses and skill sets on the Victorian Skills Gateway(opens in a new window).

“A common misconception is that working with children only offers care-based work. While that is part of it, there is a range of opportunities. All of that coming out of one sector is pretty amazing.”
