A safe and welcoming environment for everyone
St Albans Heights Primary School has created a safe and welcoming environment so all students can thrive.

St Albans Heights Primary School used the School-wide Positive Behaviour Support framework to help all students feel they belong, have greater connections, and are engaged in learning.
The school has experienced significant improvements in student behaviour, with the percentage of students experiencing bullying decreasing from 40% to 8% in just 4 years.
Each year, students learn the behavioural expectations for different areas. If they have forgotten the expectation, they are re-taught it.
Students seen to demonstrate the school values are rewarded with a Most Valuable Peer (MVP) card, which can be redeemed for:
- toys
- sporting equipment
- games
- free time
- lunch with the principal.
Assistant Principal Glenn Groves said the school’s use of the School-wide Positive Behaviour Support framework helped ensure all students understood what was expected of them and how to meet those expectations.
‘The students are really showing more belonging in the school. They have greater connections with staff. They are engaged in their learning,’ he said.
Classroom teacher Laura Phillips said this had freed teachers to focus on what mattered most — learning.
‘The difference that we’re seeing in students’ behaviours and also teachers’ confidence to deal with undesired behaviours has grown substantially,’ she said.
‘We know that when students’ basic needs are met, they’re able to excel in their learning and have greater opportunities for success.'
