About the scholarship

The Victorian Government is offering scholarships to students who are accepted into the 2026 Advanced Diploma of Interpreting program at RMIT University to study interpreting in one of these languages:

The Scholarship is to study anAdvanced Diploma of Interpreting, which is a one-year, full-time program that begins in February 2026 and finishes in November 2026.

Most of the course activities are delivered online, with some in-person classroom sessions held at RMIT University’s City Campus.

Please note: We require a minimum number of participants for each language.

In cases of low enrolment in the Diploma or the Advanced Diploma program, students may instead be offered the option to enrol in the Introduction to Interpreting Skill Set or the Introduction to Translating and Interpreting Skill Set programs.

Scholarship amount

Up to $8,115 will be awarded as a scholarship to cover the program fees in full for students in a government subsidised place. For other fee places, students will be required to cover the gap. The specific amount will depend on each student’s enrolment status.

Scholarships will be paid directly to RMIT University on behalf of the student.

The National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) issues credentials or certification to people who wish to work as interpreters and translators in Australia. NAATI sets and maintains high national standards for Australia’s translating and interpreting sector.

Students who successfully complete the Advanced Diploma of Interpreting program will be eligible to sit either NAATI’s:

NAATI recognition or certification is required to work as a qualified interpreter or translator in Victoria and across Australia.

It is an expectation that students will sit their relevant NAATI test for the highest qualification available to them upon completion of their RMIT course.
