How postgraduate employment-based programs work
You could complete a postgraduate Master of Teaching degree within 1.5-2 years with the support of:
- a government-funded scholarship
- the benefit of learning from experienced teachers by being employed in a government school while you study
Eligibility
Students will study to qualify to teach in two subject areas where:
- subject area 1 is either English, Maths, Science, and/or Specialist Studies
- subject area 2 is your choice of a complementary field
You must have the ability to work in a priority location across Victoria in a secondary or specialist government school.
Each higher education provider will have requirements for admission. Contact them directly for more information.
Selection is based on:
- merit
- likelihood of success, and
- availability of places in the course.
Teach Today programs
Program inclusions and course structure
Year one
You will commence your Master of Secondary Education while completing an intensive study of up to 12 weeks and receive a one-off payment of up to $3,000 (taxable) to support you before working in a school as an education support staff member or paraprofessional with Permission to Teach registration.
Year two
You will continue to work in a school as a paraprofessional with Permission to Teach registration while you complete the final year of the degree.

Teach Tomorrow programs
Program inclusions and course structure
Year one
You will commence a Master of Secondary Education while studying full-time for the first 6-12 months. Some programs offer participants to work in a school as an education support staff member during the first year.
The Teach Tomorrow program offers a taxable scholarship of up to $16,000 (taxable) while you study for the first 12 months.
Year two
You will then transition to working in a school as a paraprofessional with a Permission to Teach registration while you complete the final 6-12 months of the degree.

- Course duration: 24-month course
- Intensive study in the first year of the program while undertaking placements in Victorian Government secondary schools with the opportunity to be employed as a Learning Support Officer at a 0.2FTE in Semester 2 of the first year.
- 12 months of employment in the second year of the program as a paraprofessional under Permission to Teach (Internship) at a 0.8 FTE (includes 0.2 paid time release)

Daily grants are available to pre-service teachers undertaking placements in regional, remote and specialist government schools in 2026.
Continued supports are available to pre-service teachers while they undertake their teaching placements in regional, remote and specialist government schools, including those already living in those areas.
