Promoting mental health and wellbeing at home

Positive mental health and wellbeing is important for your child or teen’s healthy development and learning.

Support if you’re concerned about your child’s mental health

As parents and carers, you’re often in the best position to identify if your child or teen is struggling with their mental health.

How schools can help support your child’s mental health and wellbeing

Children’s mental health improves when schools and families work in partnership.

Schools mental health menu

Mental health practitioners in secondary and specialist schools

The department introduced the Mental Health Practitioners initiative in 2019 to expand in-school mental health and wellbeing supports to Victorian government schools. From Term 4 2021, the initiative has been rolled out to all eligible school campuses across Victoria. It has also been extended to all eligible specialist school campuses.

Mental Health in Primary Schools (MHiPS)

Every eligible government and low fee non-government primary school is funded to employ a Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader to implement a whole-school approach to mental health and wellbeing.
