- The IOSDR is independent, impartial and free.
- The Chair and Deputy Chairs are appointed by the Minister for Education.
- The IOSDR operates under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Secretary of the Department of Education.
- The IOSDR delivers professional learning programs and may make recommendations for system improvements in the education community.
