- Education We are investing to continue building a strong and sustainable school workforce. That’s because we know our teachers, school leaders and school support staff shape the lives and learning outcomes of all Victorian students.
These investments have contributed to the number of registered teachers in Victoria growing by 14,000 in 2025 compared to 2020.

We want to make sure our hardworking teachers and school leaders have the support they need to thrive. That’s why we’ve invested in several initiatives to keep our education workforce strong.

- What we’re doing to help teachers in the workplace
To improve working conditions in teaching, we’re:
- reducing the maximum time teachers spend teaching in the classroom, so they have more time to plan and collaborate.
- introducing in time-in-lieu arrangements for teachers attending school camps.
- providing funding to promote flexible work arrangements and promote work-life balance for school leaders and classroom teachers.
- What we’re doing to support school recruitment
- Teacher Financial Incentives. This initiative provides incentives of up to $50,000 to help teachers relocate to jobs in rural and regional government schools.
- Central Workforce Support Service. This service gives advice and help for schools facing challenges finding enough teachers.
- Teach the Future recruitment campaign. This campaign is raising the profile of teaching and attracting more people to the profession. View the Teach the Future campaign website.
- Aspiring Koorie Teachers Now (AKT Now). This strategy aims to attract and retain new and returning First Nations Peoples into the school workforce.
