More homes for Victorians
Housing is one of the biggest challenges we face in Victoria. We need to build more homes each year over the next 10 years to increase housing supply and meet our needs as a growing state.
Opening doors to get you in a new home sooner
The Victorian Government is opening doors, so more Victorians can open the door to their own home. That means planning more homes in the communities you want to live, close to trams, trains ands services. Slashing stamp duty on off-the-plan apartments and townhouses and for first home buyers, $10,000 if you’re buying or building a new home.
Our progress
Victoria is the number one state in Australia for approving and building homes. In the past year, we have approved more than 52,000 new homes.
This includes:
10,000 new social and affordable homes through the Big Housing Build
10,000 new homes fast-tracked for development
130 reforms to strengthen renters’ rights
$1 billion to build new homes in regional Victoria

Victoria’s housing statement
All this work is underpinned by Victoria’s Housing statement. The statement is the Victorian Government’s policy to ensure our state has enough housing supply to lower house prices and meet the needs of our growing population.
Victoria’s Housing Statement
Finding an affordable home is becoming harder than ever before. That’s why this Housing Statement puts forward an ambitious plan to tackle the root of the problem: housing supply.
