Designed by and for the local community
Tech Schools are a place-based initiative with close ties to their local community.
The local partnerships for each Tech School include secondary schools, a local TAFE institute or university, local government and industry representatives. These partners work together on the design and development of Tech School programs.
The collaboration between these partners ensures that the operation of the Tech School is shaped by local knowledge and needs.

Community support from your local Tech School
Meeting each community’s priority industry needs
Three-quarters of the fastest growing industries and occupations require STEM skills and knowledge. Tech Schools introduce students to the priority industries in their area, and help them learn the new skills that they’ll need to succeed. They make STEM accessible and exciting to students of all backgrounds, giving them the confidence to pursue the great careers in these industries.
Each Tech School is unique to its area and focuses on specific local industry sectors expected to provide strong growth, including:
- clean energy
- advanced manufacturing
- agriculture
- digital technologies
- health infrastructure
- social services.
Opportunities for industry partnerships
Tech Schools work with industry representatives to design STEM learning programs based on the challenges faced by local industries. Through these partnerships, Tech Schools can give students a direct insight into career opportunities in local priority industries.
There are many ways for industry partners to get involved in Tech Schools, including providing input into program design, promoting career opportunities and supporting teacher professional learning.
For industry partners, Tech Schools offer a way to invest in the future workforce, provide support for teachers and students in the local community, and collaborate in a STEM hub for the region.
Tech Schools are keen to hear from local industry representatives. Contact your local Tech School to discuss opportunities for involvement.
