How to access administrative school records

On this page

Accessing administrative school records

The location of administrative school records can vary depending on the type of record and when it was created. Contacting the school or the department’s records team can be the best place to start your search.

Contact the school if it is still open as they hold some records onsite. If you’re not sure if the school is still open, you can check the Victorian Government Schools Directory.

Some records from open schools may have been transferred to the Department of Education’s archive.

Contact the Department of Education’s records team if the school has closed or you’re not sure where to start. The team can help you find records or give you advice about what to do next.

The records team can be contacted by emailing: archives.records@education.vic.gov.au
