The certificates aim to celebrate and recognise the importance of both excellence and learning growth.

Categories of achievement

The certificates will be awarded for two categories of achievement:

Measuring a student’s learning growth

Learning growth is a way of measuring how much progress a student makes in their learning. It is measured by identifying the proficiency level as well as showing a high relative growth level.

The high relative growth level indicates that the students score for that test is in the top 25% for students with a similar score on the same test type two years prior.

Achieving a score in the Exceeding proficiency level is considered exceeding students expectations and an increase of a proficiency level with high relative growth from Year 7 to Year 9 is considered a significant growth in learning.

As students move through the NAPLAN years, the skills and understanding required to achieve each proficiency level increase in difficulty. A student who achieves the same proficiency level in successive years, such as Year 7 and Year 9, may still be making progress.

Eligibility

A student’s growth in learning is measured by comparing their Year 7 and Year 9 NAPLAN test results. This means only students who sit the Year 7 NAPLAN test are eligible to receive a certificate for learning growth.
