What is TAFE?

Learn about what TAFE is and how it might be a great choice for your career. TAFE has a rich history in Victoria, having played a crucial role in training since the late 19th century. The name TAFE, which stands for Technical and Further Education, became commonly used in the 1970s.

Modern-day TAFE offers a wide range of qualifications, from nationally accredited certificates and advanced diplomas to pre-apprenticeships and short courses. Students can choose from a diverse range of study areas, from health, design and creative industries, to cyber security, business and engineering.

There are 12 TAFE institutes, 4 dual sector universities and a large number of private training organisations that deliver government-funded VET courses across Victoria.
