Water safety programs
Lifesaving Education Programs
Life Saving Victoria’s Lifesaving Education Programs provide practical and engaging learning experiences for Victorian students to learn water safety, lifesaving and emergency response skills.
The programs are designed to empower students to make safe water-related decisions while enjoying their local waterways.
Programs are ideal to enhance your school’s water safety or camp programs.
They can be delivered as either classroom incursions, or as excursions at local beaches, rivers and lakes.
The programs align to the Victorian Curriculum and are supported by free online resources and cross-curriculum lesson plans for Foundation (Prep) to Year 10.
Life Saving Victoria delivers the program in Victorian YMCA Camps in partnership with the Victorian YMCA.
Swim and Survive program
The Swim and Survive program is a national swimming and water safety initiative of the Royal Life Saving Society that seeks to increase swimming and water safety skills of Australian children in order to prevent drowning and increase participation in safe aquatic activity.
Swim and Survive is a program that can easily be implemented into a large aquatic facility, a private swim school, swimming club or even be delivered as a school swimming and water safety program, delivered by school teachers. The program includes a comprehensive set of resources and awards to support its delivery.
Swim City Online Learning Tool
Children can brush up on their swimming and water safety knowledge with the Swim City online game.
Developed by Life Saving Victoria, Swim City is a valuable learning tool to support children to develop their understanding of water safety, using a fun and accessible resource.
It can be shared with students, introduced into school programs and even provided to a child who may be unable to take part in a PE lesson or sporting event.
School Swimming and Water Safety Toolkit and the Victorian Water Safety Certificate
Life Saving Victoria (LSV) has worked in partnership with DE and VCAA in the delivery of the Life Saving Victoria Toolkit, which includes VCAA sample swimming and water safety activities and a swimming and water safety progression model that is aligned to the Victorian Curriculum and the National Swimming and Water Safety Framework.
The development of these new resources and training for teachers is aimed at supporting schools and the aquatics industry to deliver quality swimming programs and to promote the Victorian Water Safety Certificate.
Grey Medallion program
The Grey Medallion program is a Royal Life Saving water safety and lifesaving skills initiative for people over 55 years of age. It aims to encourage a healthy, independent and active lifestyle through the development of essential skills in order to participate in aquatic recreation activities safely.
The program provides older adults with personal survival techniques, improved swimming skills, knowledge to deal with emergency situations and a thorough understanding of water safety, in order to reduce the likelihood of drowning. The program is inclusive of all abilities, including non-swimmers.
