The Transport (Compliance and Miscellaneous) (Ticketing) Regulations 2017 (opens in a new window)were made by the Governor in Council on 14 June 2017 - with a commencement date of 1 July 2017.

The regulations replace the Transport Ticketing Regulations 2006.

The regulations provide a robust legal framework which outlines the obligations, defences, and penalties for ticketing offences and support the government’s fare compliance and enforcement activities.

The compliance with and enforcement of ticketing requirements is important to ensure a well-funded and well-functioning public transport system.

Transport for Victoria consulted on the draft regulations in May 2017, before recommending the final regulations to the Minister for Public Transport.
