On this page
Vocational education and training (VET) is made up of different training products that are recognised across Australia.
The products include qualifications, units of competency, skill sets or accredited courses that are developed via industry training packages or VET accredited courses.
Industry training packages
Training packages include a set of standards for assessing the skills and knowledge needed to perform in the workplace. They do not specify how a learner should be trained.
The Victorian training package purchasing guides include:
- minimum and maximum payable hour allocation for each qualification
- nominal hours for each unit of competency.
Information on nationally endorsed training packages is available on the national register.
Training packages are developed by industry technical committees and supported by Jobs and Skills Councils. For further information on how training packages are developed, please see the Training Package Organising Framework (TPOF 2025).
Training packages are regularly assessed for quality and reviewed to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of industry, students and the community.
VET accredited courses
VET accredited courses address skill requirements for industry, enterprise, education, legislative or community needs.
We offer accredited VET courses to support Victorian industry and community needs where there are no existing packages or endorsed units available. You can also search the national register of accredited courses.
These courses are approved by an accrediting body, to confirm that each course:
- is nationally recognised
- meets an established industry, enterprise, educational, legislative or community need
- provides appropriate competency outcomes and a satisfactory basis for assessment
- meets national quality assurance requirements
- is aligned appropriately to the Australian Qualification Framework where it leads to a qualification.
