And the winner is… 2025’s top baby names

Choosing a baby name is a decision many parents carefully consider for months – and sometimes even years.
A name can reflect family traditions, personal values and changing trends.
So which names captured the hearts of Victorian parents and topped the list in 2025?
Births, Deaths and Marriages Victoria (BDM) has released its annual list of the most popular baby names(opens in a new window) registered in the past year.
Without further ado, Noah and Charlotte have claimed the top spots as Victoria’s most popular baby names of 2025!

If you’ve been following BDM’s annual list of Victoria’s top 100 baby names(opens in a new window), this year’s result may come as a surprise.
For the last 11 years, Oliver has reigned as Victoria’s top boy’s name – its enduring appeal seemingly unbeatable.
That is, until 2025.
This year, Noah surged into first place with an impressive 511 registrations, claiming the top spot for the first time.
So where does Oliver stand – or rather, nap – now?
In an honourable second position, with a tally of 464 registrations.
Henry finished third for the second year in a row (398). Following him was Leo, who just missed out on a top 3 position by a mere 10 registrations (383). Theodore finished fifth, with 350 registrations.

Charlotte continues to be a firm favourite among Victorian parents.
The name has placed in the top 3 since 2012. In fact, Charlotte has been the most popular girl’s name 5 times in the last decade.
In 2025, 362 baby girls were named Charlotte, returning it to the top position.
Close behind was Amelia, with 337 registrations. The name continues to grow in popularity, after ranking third in 2024.
Hazel jumped from fifth to third place (325), while Mia followed in fourth place (321).
And how about 2024’s winning girl’s name, Isla? She dropped to fifth, with 309 registrations.
Other interesting nuggets
More than 80,000 births were registered in Victoria in 2025.
There were 11 new names in the top 100 for girls. Lainey placed the highest of the new entries at 69.
Meanwhile, there were 8 new names in the top 100 for boys. Rory was the highest placing of the new entries at 77.
