Stolen Generations Reparations Package – Application Form PDF 934.34 KB (opens in a new window)
-
copies of 2 forms of accepted identification
-
a photo of yourself and one of the pieces of identification
-
the application for an advance payment form signed by your treating doctor or other medical professional:
The application for an advance payment form asks your treating doctor or other medical professional to confirm that you are either:
-
terminally ill or
-
critically ill, in that you have an illness that is:
-
a life-threatening illness, and
-
likely to worsen within six months, preventing you from fully benefitting from any payment if you had to wait for your application to be assessed.
You or your doctor or medical professional should send us the completed form by email to stolen.generations@justice.vic.gov.au(opens in a new window).
Considerations for Centrelink payments and other entitlements
Payments from the Victorian Stolen Generations Reparations Package will not be counted as income for social security payments. This means that the initial lump sum amount will not have any effect on the social security payments you may receive.
Open all
- Social security income test treatment of payments under the Package
While the initial lump sum payment will not affect social security payments, any on-going income generated by the lump sum is counted under the income test. Any assessable asset produced from the lump sum is counted under the social security assets test.
You will still need to report these payments to Services Australia.
You can contact the Services Australia Indigenous Call Centre, or your regular payment line, to advise of the payments.
The Indigenous Call Centre can be contacted on 1800 136 380(opens in a new window) from 9 am–5 pm, Monday to Friday.
- Tax
Payments from the Package are not taxable, and you do not need to show these payments in any income tax returns.
- Other entitlements
If you have any questions about how the reparations payment may affect any of your other entitlements, please contact us.
Support for ineligible applicants
You can still access some supports even if you aren’t eligible for the package.
If you are ineligible because you were first removed from your family outside Victoria, you can contact us for support services in another State or Territory.
If you are ineligible because your separation didn’t result in a loss of family, community, culture, identity and language, you may still get counselling funded by the Department.
Please contact us for more information at stolen.generations@justice.vic.gov.au(opens in a new window).
Other redress and reparations schemes for Victorian Stolen Generations members to consider
You cannot apply on behalf of someone who has already passed away.
Applying for the Package does not affect your eligibility for Other Reparations and Redress Schemes currently active across Australia.
