A State Memorial Service to honour and celebrate the life of Mr John Famechon AM was held on Tuesday 11 October at Festival Hall.

A State Memorial Service to honour and celebrate the life of Mr John Famechon AM was held on Tuesday 11 October at Festival Hall.

Family, friends and fans gathered to pay tribute to Mr Famechon’s legacy and contributions to the sport of boxing, the State of Victoria and to his local community.

The Service commenced with a welcome from the Master of Ceremonies, Mr Bruce Eva, followed by a Welcome to Country from Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Di Kerr OAM and a rendition of the Australian National Anthem by Ms Cassie McIvor.

Family and friends provided tributes, along with a number of video montages, including a highlights package of Mr Famechon’s victory against Mr José Legrá at the Royal Albert Hall, London in 1969.
