State Funeral Service for Leslie (Les) Jack Twentyman OAM
A State Funeral Service to honour and celebrate the life of Les Twentyman OAM was held on Tuesday 16 April at St Patrick’s Cathedral.

A State Funeral Service to honour the extraordinary life of Mr Leslie (Les) Jack Twentyman OAM was held at 10.30 am on Tuesday 16 April at St Patrick’s Cathedral in East Melbourne.
Friends, family, colleagues and members of the public gathered to reflect on Les’ dedication to a lifetime of service, generosity, and kindness to some of Victoria’s most vulnerable people.
The Service commenced with a Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri Elder Aunty Joy Murphy Wandin AO.
The Very Reverend Monsignor Stuart Hall, Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral, shared a welcome and gathering message before Hope Zorbas led the congregation for the Australian National Anthem.
The Premier, Hon Jacinta Allan MP, spoke on behalf of the people of Victoria, reflecting on Les’ legacy that will live on through the young lives he helped and the hearts he touched.
Sandra Papashalis and Garry Twentyman spoke on behalf of the family, followed by tributes from The Honourable Bill Shorten MP, David Young, Chairman of the Les Twentyman Foundation, and comedian Jack Levi.
A Requiem Mass followed with Father Joe Giacobbe as Principal Celebrant.
Les’ life was told through several stories represented by personal life symbols, including a denim jacket, reading glasses, a mobile phone, Sandringham, Williamstown and Western Bulldogs club scarfs, and a bottle of Pepperjack Shiraz.
The Service concluded with a touching photo montage of Les’ work with the Les Twentyman Foundation and fond memories shared with friends and family.
At the request of Les’ family and in lieu of flowers, tributes may be made in the form of a contribution to The Les Twentyman Foundation. To donate, please visit – ltfoundation.com.au/donate(opens in a new window)
