The digital services, finance and IT industry supports most aspects of the economy. Businesses in this industry drive innovation and economic growth. From banking to artificial intelligence (AI), more skilled workers are needed.
In Victoria, it’s expected that:
- 14,900 new workers will enter the financial and insurance services industry by 2027, and 53,500 will enter by 2034*
- 2,900 new workers will enter the information media and telecommunications industry by 2027, and 10,000 will enter by 2034.*
On the technology side, demand continues to grow. There is a need for telecommunications engineers and technicians, and cyber security specialists. Emerging technologies are creating jobs in areas like AI, blockchain solutions and robotics.
The finance industry is also transforming. Victoria’s population is ageing, which is creating new jobs. Demand is growing for support in health insurance, superannuation and financial advice. Changing regulations means many workers in this industry will need to upskill to adapt.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) is a great way to get started in the industry, or to grow your career.
