Developments in Melbourne and regional Victoria are driving a construction boom, and you could be a part of it. It’s expected that 68,600 new workers will enter the construction industry by 2027, and that 162,900 will enter by 2034.*

The construction industry is the fourth largest employer in Victoria. The industry serves the civil, industrial, commercial and residential building industries.

The work is hands-on and practical. With more developments happening in Victoria, skilled workers are in demand. There are opportunities to become your own boss and take charge of your own career and lifestyle balance. So if you want freedom, flexibility and security, construction is a great choice.

Sustainability in the built environment is a huge part of Victoria’s future. Recycling and sustainable design are key components. If you can build care for the environment into your construction work, you’ll be well placed for a great career.

Vocational Education and Training (VET) is the quickest path to work. The industry has strong connections with education providers. Apprenticeships and traineeships are often the way forward to a career in construction.

Construction jobs are wide ranging. They include, but are not limited to, carpenter, plumber and electrician. Explore the information below to learn more about working in construction.
