The transition to renewable energy is creating thousands of jobs in wind, solar, bioenergy and more. Major changes are coming our way, and with them, thousands of jobs. The future of energy is clean. The Victorian government has invested in grid infrastructure, energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects. Advances in wind, hydrogen, bioenergy and electric vehicles are driving demand for new and upskilled workers.
To help transition Victoria to clean energy, the Victorian Government has revived the State Electricity Commission (SEC). This is expected to create 59,000 jobs, including 6,000 apprenticeship opportunities over the coming years.* The SEC will help find and train the next generation of skilled tradespeople to support the renewable energy transition.
You could be an engineer, plant operator or energy efficiency assessor. You could be a wind turbine technician, solar installer, or sustainability officer. The clean energy industry is great for people with transferable skills. Mechanics, electricians and other trades may all find new pathways here.
Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualifications are required for many top employing occupations. VET can also lead to many job pathways through higher education. In general, there’s a major push to open entry-level opportunities, so if you’re looking for an exciting career, clean energy is a fantastic place to start.
