Renew your liquor licence

You must renew your liquor licence or permit by 31 December each year.

You can pay your renewal fee:

Your new liquor licence or permit will be available in the Liquor Portal (eLicence menu) within 5 working days of payment.

You must pay by 31 December each year to continue trading.

Calculating your fee

Each year, we calculate your annual renewal fee in line with the Liquor Control Reform Regulations 2023.

Your fee depends on your licence category and risk factors linked to alcohol-related harm. Venues with higher risks pay higher fees.

Get your renewal notice by email:

  1. Create a Liquor Portal account:

  1. Link your licence or permit using your licence number and 4-digit PIN (found on your renewal notice or grant letter)
  2. Add your email address.

You must create a new account if you can no longer access your login email or want to change it. We cannot change this for you.

Lost renewal notice

If you have lost your renewal notice, you can download it from the Liquor Portal (eLicence section).

Incorrect charges

If you are not sure why you have been charged the listed amount, read how we calculate renewal fees.

If you still think we have made a mistake, contact us before 31 December. We will review the fee and correct any mistakes.

If you’re not trading

You must still pay your renewal fee to keep your licence or permit.

You cannot pause it, even if your venue is closed temporarily.

If you have closed permanently, you should surrender your licence so:

Renew an expired licence

If a licence or permit is not renewed by 30 June, only these people can apply to have it renewed:

This only applies if you are not the licensee. If you are, you cannot renew an expired licence.

Important dates

You can only apply to renew between 1 July and 30 September of the same year the licence or permit expired.

You cannot apply to renew a renewable limited licence after 30 June.

Once these dates have passed, you cannot renew the licence or permit. You need to apply for a new one.
