Our transport operators
We work closely with our transport operators to keep our network moving.

By overseeing the contracts and performance of our operators, we deliver simple, connected journeys for all Victorians.
Metro trains Melbourne
As the city’s metropolitan rail service, Metro(opens in a new window) operates 226 six-carriage trains across 998 kilometres of track, transporting 450,000 customers each day.
Yarra Trams
Melbourne’s iconic tram fleet is operated by Yarra Trams(opens in a new window). Consisting of more than 490 trams across nine classes, the world’s largest tram network runs on 250km of double track and accommodates 207 million passenger trips per year.
V/Line
V/Line(opens in a new window) has provided passenger rail and coach services to regional Victoria for over 30 years, connecting Melbourne with destinations across the state, as well as South Australia, New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
On 1 July 2021, V/Line transitioned from a state-owned enterprise to a statutory authority, with the CEO reporting to the Secretary of the Department of Transport. This brings V/Line more directly into the centre of Victoria’s public transport system, while also improving oversight and delivery of regional public transport services.
