New entrant training for liquor licence applicants
You are required to complete new entrant training when applying for most liquor licence types.
On this page
You must complete new entrant training when you apply:
- for a liquor licence
- to transfer an existing licence.
This does not apply if you are applying for, or applying to transfer, a BYO permit or pre-retail licence.
New entrant training covers:
- Victorian liquor laws and regulations
- how to understand your liquor licence
- best practice for managing licensed venues or locations.
You only need to do new entrant training once. If you take over another licence in future, you do not need to repeat it. We will ask for a copy of your training certificate.
Read about licensee training, including who needs to get trained.
Club applicants
If you are applying for your club to get a restricted club licence or renewable limited licence with club conditions, instead of new entrant training you can attend a club seminar run by Good Sports.
This is a tailored version of new entrant training, recognising that many clubs are run by volunteers.
Visit the Good Sports website to find out seminar dates.
