New routes, new services
We’re updating our commercial arrangements with bus operators to deliver new types of services and new routes where they are needed in our growing suburbs.

Better buses
Buses are Victoria’s great connectors. No matter where you are, buses are the hidden glue that keeps the public transport network together.
As Victoria’s population continues its rapid growth, buses are a vital service, giving more people the option to leave their cars at home.
The Department of Transport and Planning is adding or improving hundreds of new bus services for people who need public transport the most. We’re also investing in more accessible bus services and new technology such as electric buses.
New routes
In the past 12 months, we’ve added new bus routes(opens in a new window) to Melbourne suburbs like Melton, Rockbank, Keilor East, Essendon Fields, Endeavour Hills, Narre Warren North, Clyde and shortly in Tarneit and Williams Landing.
A new on-demand of FlexiRide (opens in a new window)bus service that operates only when booked with no fixed route is now being trialled in Croydon, Lilydale, Melton South, Morroolbark, Rosebud and Rowville.
Places in regional Victoria like Sale, Lancefield, Kyneton and Armstrong Creek have also welcomed new bus services.
We’re also accelerating the delivery of a new bus service in Keysborough South and a new service connecting Mernda and Craigieburn.
Improved routes
More than 15 bus routes have been extended or upgraded over the past 12 months, with another 25 undergoing a timetable change.
The Mornington Peninsula bus network is set to be upgraded with better timetables and frequency, and improvements to school special bus services have been introduced to Oberon High School.
School special buses will also be introduced to The Lakes South Morang College, Elevation Secondary College, St Helena Secondary College, Alamanda College, and Officer Secondary College.
Improved bus routes operating to a higher frequency give locals better access to important places like work, education and healthcare.
