Multicultural Youth Network

A network of multicultural young people who explore issues facing their peers and provide advice to the Victorian Government. The Multicultural Youth Network advises the Victorian Government on issues that affect young, multicultural Victorians.

Members include young people from a range of faiths, cultures, ages and locations. It was established in September 2007 and meets once a month.

It is supported by:

the Victorian Multicultural Commission Youth Commissioner as chairperson
the Minister for Multicultural Affairs.

As a group, they:

highlight key issues facing young Victorians
deliver presentations on diversity, faith and culture
develop youth-led projects
build their skills in responding to challenges faced by multicultural youth

Members have contributed to many initiatives, including:

youth-led projects on employment, mental health, sport and education
workshops with young people to discuss cultural diversity
workshops with young people to discuss the migration experience
participation in the UBUNTU Youth Stage as part of the Viva Victoria festival in 2012 to 2016
developed a research and recommendations paper on multifaith prayer rooms in Victorian public schools
coordinated a youth-led festival designed to embrace all faiths and cultural backgrounds.
