Advancing Manufacturing – the Fishermans Bend opportunity

0:09

Fishermans Bend has long been synonymous with innovation and ingenuity in Australia’s

0:14

manufacturing and industrial history.

0:18

From the invention of the first black box flight recorder

0:25

to the roll-out of Australia’s first locally designed and made production-line car

0:30

the Precinct has a proud legacy in turning bold ideas into tried and tested inventions.

0:36

This legacy has endured and today Fishermans Bend presents a once-in-a-generation

0:41

opportunity to redefine what manufacturing means in 21st century Australia.

0:46

It will be a place where the best of what Melbourne makes can be showcased and celebrated.

0:53

Working with existing and future industry partners,

0:56

and connecting them to universities, innovators and investors,

1:00

Fishermans Bend will be a place where boundaries are pushed, where bold ideas become realities.

1:06

The University of Melbourne are already committed to developing the new campus at Fishermans Bend

1:12

and the Victorian Government will engage globally and across Australia to secure the

1:16

best institutions, companies and capabilities to realise a thriving innovation ecosystem.

1:24

Together these and other actions will propel Fishermans Bend to be internationally renowned

1:29

as a centre of innovation in advanced manufacturing, engineering and design.

1:35

Five key moves are proposed to bring the vision to life.

1:42

Key Move 1 - use the government land holding to catalyse economic, cultural and place change across Fishermans Bend.

1:58

Key Move 2 – connect Fishermans Bend to the city and the world.

2:14

Key Move 3 – give the precinct lungs, to provide a new and expanded green network

2:16

that supports the changing economy and biodiversity.

2:29

Key Move 4 – support pedestrian life and activity along re-imagined boulevards.

2:45

Key Move 5 – encourage development that improves amenity, delivers advanced manufacturing,

2:51

engineering and design jobs, and safeguards long-term flexibility.

2:57

In the coming months, years and decades the Victorian Government looks forward to working

3:02

with you as we build a precinct of truly global renown and collaborate

3:07

to develop brave solutions to the complex challenges we collectively face.
