Fishermans Bend: A Plan for the Future

0:03

I’m delighted to be launching today, the innovative and ambitious planning Framework

0:12

for Fishermans Bend.

0:14

The biggest urban renewal redevelopment site in the country.

0:19

It’s going to be home to 80,000 people who are going to be living there and a further

0:24

80,000 people who are going to be employed in Fishermans Bend.

0:28

I’m pleased the community have had a really excellent chance to have an input into this

0:33

planning Framework because we want to ensure people can work and live in this precinct

0:39

and get around this precinct really easily.

0:42

We expect that 6 per cent of housing development in the area will be affordable housing to

0:48

ensure that everybody has an opportunity to live in this really well planned urban precinct.

0:55

We will ensure that Fishermans Bend is a great place to live, where we will have schools,

1:01

we will have public open space, we will have all of the amenity that people ought to expect

1:07

in this new residential precinct.

1:10

Our key partners, the City of Melbourne and the City of Port Phillip have done so much

1:15

of the planning work to ensure that we are going to have a comprehensive response to

1:21

the redevelopment of Fishermans Bend.

1:23

And I’m delighted that we have a new governance board which is going to be chaired by Meredith

1:29

Sussex, one of the great urban thinkers.

1:33

What a fantastic opportunity to finally get the planning for Fishermans Bend right.
