Public schools are fantastic because they are embedded into the community.
For our students who are really passionate about certain subjects like, art, design, technology, we provide them with many different opportunities, like the facilities that we have here where they can engage with real world experiences.
Ongoing professional development for teaching is so imperative in terms of being able to stay current for all teaching staff to be up-to-date with the latest practices and theories and methods and pedagogy to help inform our teaching in the classroom, to really meet students at their point of need.
Our school, provides opportunities for high achievers by, offering a tutoring program from our high achieving alumni students.
We have specialist speakers and poets and writers come in to meet our students. And also, we provide training and professional development for our specialist teachers.
Being successful at school, to me, means being proud of my results and feeling like I tried my hardest.
Learning what people value not just learning skills or knowledge.
Definitely discipline and study skills.
Footscray High’s been great at tailoring, programs to my daughter’s passions and needs.
A really good example is that she’s passionate about theatre arts and in year 10 she’s going to be joining the accelerated theatre studies program so she can start her year 11 theatre studies subject in year 10.
It feels like a school to me where there’s a lot of options. I feel like she can actually do what she wants at the school, and is encouraged to aim high while being herself.
The Farm is a really special place for Footscray High School, and it offers a chance for students in a urban setting to connect with nature.
