Introduction to Pre-Prep

Every child deserves the best start in life. That is why Four-Year-Old Kinder is becoming Pre-Prep in Victoria, with programs gradually increasing from15 to 30 hours each week. Pre-Prep will continue to be play-based learning, led by qualified teachers, providing children with additional time to learn and grow. It also allows early childhood services to build stronger relationships with children and their families.

Pre-Prep will gradually become available across the state from 2025. By 2036, all children in Victoria will have access to up to 30 hours of Pre-Prep per week. Pre-Prep is free for children at participating standalone kindergarten services in Victoria.

Families with children at a long daycare centre will receive a fee offset. Find out more about Pre-Prep at vic.gov.au forward slash pre-prep.
