Ready to Volunteer - Anita’s story

0:00

My name’s Anita.

0:01

I’m a mother of two kids, a 12 year old and a ten year old.

0:05

I run my own business, I’m a graphic designer,

0:08

and in my spare time, I volunteer for my kid’s sports clubs.

0:12

So my daughter plays AFL and my son plays soccer.

Skills

0:15

The skills that I have brought to my volunteering is

0:20

I use my graphic design skills for my daughter’s footy club.

0:23

I do a lot of their posters and artwork and also a newsletter.

Team Manager

0:29

For my son’s under 11’s team.

0:31

I’m the team manager, so I have to organise parents

0:34

and be the contact for the club and the actual team.

0:39

So I initially got into volunteering because no one else

Why volunteer

0:43

was putting their hand up.

0:44

So I then said yes, someone had to do it.

0:48

But since I’ve done it now for four years, I actually really enjoyed the role.

0:53

For anyone that’s not sure if they are ready to volunteer

0:56

or don’t think they have enough time.

0:58

I think there are so many things

Conclusion

1:00

you can do to volunteer that it can only be half an hour a week.

1:04

It can be less sometimes in the year, let’s say at the start of the season it’s

1:08

a lot more work, but generally there’s not a lot that needs to go into it.

1:13

I volunteer because I think it’s a great way to be part of my kid’s lives

1:17

and being part of what they enjoy doing and the community

1:22

that goes along with it.
