On 29 July the second meeting of the fifth term of the LGBTIQA+ Taskforce was held.

Matters considered

LGBTIQA+ data policy discussion

Taskforce members discussed opportunities and challenges in safely collecting, storing and analysing LGBTIQA+ data. The need for improvement in the consistency and integrity of government collections at a state and federal level was noted. The Centre for Victorian Data Linkage attended to present on their work relevant to improving LGBTIQA+ visibility in government data.

Outcomes framework discussion

Department representatives noted the Pride in our future Outcomes Framework and the second year Annual Update 2023-24 are due to be released in 2024.

Next meeting

The next LGBTIQA+ Taskforce meeting is scheduled on 26 September 2024.

On 29 February the first meeting of the fifth term of the LGBTIQA+ Taskforce was held.

Matters considered

Statement on Pride protests

The Minister for Equality noted her statement released 5 February, which addressed protests against Victoria Police’s presence during the Midsumma Pride March on 4 February 2024. The Minister acknowledged the different views in diverse LGBTIQA+ communities, the need for continuous improvement from Victoria Police, and that she has met with Victoria Police’s Deputy Commissioner Neil Paterson. The Minister noted that Victorian Government funded events for LGBTIQA+ communities are important for continued visibility.

Progress summary of Term 4 items that are continuing

Department representatives provided an overview on Term 4 items still in progress. Items included Rainbow Tick accreditation, the trans and gender diverse (TGD) public awareness campaign, intersex protection system reform work, and implementation of the Rainbow Ready Roadmap.

Presentation on the 10 Year National Action Plan for the Health and Wellbeing of LGBTIQA+ people

The Hon Ged Kearney MP, Commonwealth Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care presented on the progress of the LGBTIQA+ Health and Wellbeing 10 Year National Action Plan. The Minister for Equality noted that the Commonwealth Assistant Minister’s presence at the meeting was the inaugural visit by a commonwealth minister to a Taskforce meeting and welcomed future collaboration with the commonwealth on LGBTIQA+ matters.
