We are currently testing how changing the configuration around signalled junctions can improve safety, reliability and overall throughput on the network.

This includes options such as using Bluetooth to prioritise higher capacity public transport and adjusting parking boundaries and lane markings to provide greater clearance at intersections.

We will install CCTV cameras, on-road detection systems and obstructed intersection detection technology to quickly identify and clear incidents.

We’re trialling dynamic pedestrian crossings which can determine the number of people waiting to cross and give them enough time to cross safely. Conversely, at times of the day when there are fewer pedestrians, lights will change for shorter periods, so we don’t unnecessarily delay traffic flow. This will make a big difference to safety and congestion in school zones and business districts.
