To prepare for the big move, Gus and his mum bought a new water bottle and lunch box. He practises opening them and chats to his mum about what foods they will pack for kindergarten.

Some days Gus and his mum walk or drive past the kindergarten service and talk about the things he will do there. ‘That’s my kinder!’ Gus excitedly yells. He is looking forward to playing with the toy cars, sandpit and the chickens!

Preparation isn’t all at home, Gus attended two transition sessions. These sessions welcomed him to the kindergarten and gave him the chance to become familiar with the space. He met his teachers, educators and played with other children who will be in his group.

These simple activities help build excitement but also encourage many conversations about kindergarten and what to expect.

Kindergarten helps your child to learn and grow. It supports children to develop positive relationships, problem-solving skills, ways to manage their emotions, and approaches to exploring, discovering and learning about themselves and the world around them.

Welcome to Three-Year-Old Kindergarten, Gus and the many children who are embarking on their kinder journey this year.
