Centre-based services requirements
All centre-based services approved under either the National Quality Framework (NQF) or the Children’s Services Act (CS Act) must comply with the same requirements. This includes the following services:
- Long day care
- Standalone kindergarten
- Outside School Hours Care (OSHC)
- Occasional care
- Limited hours care.
At all times that children are being educated and cared for there must be at least one educator who:
- holds a current approved first aid qualification
- has undertaken current approved anaphylaxis management training
- has undertaken current approved emergency asthma management training.
The same person may hold one or more of the above qualifications. This includes the nominated supervisor in occasional care and limited hours services.
The educator(s) must be available:
- immediately in an emergency at all times
- at any place where children are being cared for – including on excursions or outings.
Where children are being educated and cared for on a school site, these educators may be:
- in attendance at the school site
- immediately available.
Family day care requirements
Family day care (FDC) services must make sure that every FDC educator and FDC assistant engaged or registered with the service:
- holds a current approved first aid qualification
- has undertaken current approved anaphylaxis management training
- has undertaken current approved emergency asthma management training.
Currency of qualifications
The following qualifications will be accepted as ‘current’ for 3 years:
- approved first aid qualifications – except for CPR and emergency life support training
- approved anaphylaxis management training
- approved emergency asthma management training.
Emergency life support and CPR refresher training must be undertaken annually.
The certificate of completion should state:
- the date when the person completed the course
- the expiry date, or the period of validity from the course completion date.
If there is no expiry date stated on the certificate, calculate the 3 year period from either:
- the date the certificate was issued, or
- the course completion date.
The 3 years currency period applies to each qualification listed on the certificate.
If you have any questions, please contact the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) where the course was completed.
Approved courses
Read the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)’s NQF approved qualifications list for an up-to-date list of training courses for:
- approved first aid
- anaphylaxis management, and
- asthma management training.
The same list applies to NQF and CS Act services.
