Purpose of travel
From 1 to 3 September 2019, I travelled to China to visit Beijing. The purpose of this travel was to meet with high level representatives of the Chinese government to pursue avenues of mutual benefit for Victoria and China. My travel demonstrated Victoria’s commitment to deepening our collaboration with China.
Benefits of travel to the state of Victoria
The travel further strengthened the already strong relationship the Victorian government has formed with China. The travel provided a forum to discuss and identify potential opportunities for Victoria China collaboration, as well as an opportunity to promote key sectoral strengths for Victoria. Other specific benefits of the travel include:
- raising Victoria’s visibility and reputation within China, positioning Victoria as a partner for future investment and cooperation
- reinforcing Victoria’s position as Australia’s gateway to Asia
- promoting cultural connections and initiatives between Victoria and China and exploring opportunities for further co-operation
During my travel, I met with numerous Chinese government officials as well as private sector representatives regarding the above topics.
Next steps
- Victorian Government to continue to work with the Chinese Government to progress potential mutually beneficial initiatives and activities
- Victorian Government to continue to engage with Chinese companies to promote future opportunities for investment
