Creating a community from the ground up
Published: Monday 27 November 2023 at 11:01 am

Meet Ebbie Hungerford, a justice of the peace (JP) based in Eynesbury. Ebbie became a JP in May 2021. She relocated to Victoria from Central Queensland 13 years ago and enjoys the opportunity to be a JP in her local community.
When asked about her motivations for becoming a JP, Ebbie states she struggled to find a JP in her local area.
“I had lovely chats with a JP in my area around how rewarding it is to give back to the community.”
Ebbie possessed a determination to become involved in her new community and engage and connect with new people. Ebbie admits that the most gratifying aspect of the role is connecting with new individuals, supporting her community, and helping others.
“It’s very rewarding. Many hands make light work; the more volunteers, the more it becomes a flexible service and fits in with your lifestyle. It’s great to have an opportunity to meet people from all walks of life.
“I am also heavily involved in my community with the local school and sporting groups.”
Ebbie enjoys spending time with family and friends and exploring Melbourne’s western suburbs and regional Victoria.
As a community development manager, Ebbie appreciates the opportunity to create a community from the ground up.
“I’ve worked nine years and counting in this industry, connecting with like-minded people to activate amazing things and working within the community I live in.”
Ebbie’s future aspirations include forging new connections, extending a helping hand to those who need it, and remaining actively involved in the growth and development of her local community and its residents. Her vision is to continue giving back and perpetuate her ongoing commitment to community service.
