Child Safe Standards

The Social Services Regulator (SSR) regulates the Child Safe Standards for social services and organisations who do not have a sector specific co-regulator, that provide care or services to children in Victoria.

There are five co-regulators responsible for regulation of the Child Safe Standards across different sectors, including:

The SSR takes an integrated and intelligence driven approach to identifying, preventing and excluding unsafe people from working with children and young people, as well as ensuring organisations that work with children and young people keep children safe from abuse and harm by meeting the Child Safe Standards.

The SSR takes a graduated approach to regulating the Child Safe Standards, with a focus on informing and educating organisations about their obligations.

However, there may be circumstances where the SSR takes further regulatory action to ensure an organisation complies with the Child Safe Standards and to address serious risks to the safety of children and young people.

For more information about regulators of the Child Safe Standards see our Get help or raise a concern page.

The Commission for Children and Young People’s responsibilities for overseeing regulation of the Child Safe Standards were transferred to the SSR in February 2026.
