Road safety camera accuracy

Road safety cameras across the Victorian network are regularly tested for accuracy to confirm the equipment is working properly. Potential offences are thoroughly scrutinised and verified.

Road safety camera testing, certification and maintenance

Victoria’s road safety cameras, both fixed and mobile, are tested regularly by independent officers to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the equipment.

Speed verification

Each potential offence captured by a road safety camera is thoroughly scrutinised and an infringement notice (fine) is only issued if Victoria Police is satisfied an offence has occurred.

Flashed but not speeding or driving against a red-light

Sometimes cameras flash when they are testing to ensure that the camera is working properly and complies with all requirements.

Road safety camera system oversight

Oversight of Victoria’s road safety camera system is provided by the Department of Justice and Community Safety.
