Overview

The Victorian Government is committed to ensuring that children are given a higher priority across all government policies, programs and activities to safeguard and improve their safety, health, development, learning and wellbeing.

Victorian government departments have endorsed 35 outcomes and 150 indicators in four category areas (the child, family, community, services and supports) which are known to be of most importance to the present and future lives of children. These outcomes and related indicators& are documented in the VCAMS outcomes framework (DOCX, 1.2MB)(opens in a new window) as agreed by the Children’s Services Coordination Board.

The VCAMS portal reports against the VCAMS outcomes framework (DOCX, 1.2MB)(opens in a new window) and brings together data from across government to track the progress of children and young people against key health, wellbeing and development outcomes.

The VCAMS portal is designed to support and inform evidence based policy development, planning and collaboration at a local and state level. It also allows more informed decision making across government.

The Victorian Government has plans and policy responses in place to ensure the best outcomes for children and young people. Details of relevant programs and policies are presented each year in State of Victoria’s children report.

Data sources

The data used to report against the 150 VCAMS indicators is drawn from a range of Victorian government departments as well as the Australian Bureau of Statistics and other research bodies.

For many VCAMS indicators, data is not readily available and some population groups are not satisfactorily represented within standard surveys. To address these data gaps, we have undertaken a rolling program of new data collection.

VCAMS portal

The VCAMS portal allows you to view and explore data about children and young people across a range of indicators drawn from the VCAMS outcomes framework.

Indicators can be viewed for individual LGAs, and by a range of demographic breakdowns at state level. To access data on an indicator, expand the relevant domain below and click on the indicator you wish to view. The information will appear in a new window.
